AhlulBayt News Agency: The 13th International Arabic Calligraphy Festival in Algeria was held in the city of al-Madiya, bringing together calligraphers from various Islamic countries. The event aimed to celebrate Arabic calligraphy and its artistic significance.
Hosted by the Hassan al-Hassani Cultural Center in al-Madiya, the festival took place from May 12 to 15. The theme of this year’s edition was “Loyalty, Commitment, and Belonging,” highlighting the deep connection between Arabic calligraphy and cultural heritage.
The festival was organized in honor of Abdelhamid Iskandar, a distinguished Algerian calligrapher known for his contributions to the field.
Twenty provinces of Algeria, along with delegations from Palestine, Syria, Egypt, Iraq, Iran, Libya, Turkey, Jordan, Malaysia, Oman, India, Tunisia, Bahrain, China, and Pakistan, participated in the event. Attendees had the chance to explore 100 calligraphy works created by both Algerian and foreign artists.
Competitions and workshops were held on various calligraphy styles, including Thuluth, Kufi Mushafi, and Diwani. Renowned master calligraphers supervised the sessions, providing guidance to aspiring artists.
Beyond the artistic exhibitions, the festival also included visits to historical sites. Participants toured the Great Mosque of Algiers, the Fine Arts Museum of Algeria in Algiers, and the Madiya Museum of Arts and Folk Traditions, enriching their understanding of Algeria’s cultural legacy.
This annual festival is dedicated to promoting classical Islamic arts and has grown into an international platform for calligraphers worldwide. Last year, the event carried the motto “For Palestine; Victory and Loyalty,” reinforcing its commitment to cultural and social themes.
